Host Sagarmatha stuns Himalayan Sherpa to lift KBRU trophy

MORANG, March 21: The host Sagarmatha Youth Club on Wednesday clinched the title of International Invitational Third PLO KBRU Kandangwa Memorial Gold Cup Football Tournament held at Birat Chowk, Morang.
Sagarmatha, limited to 10 men in the 39th minute, scored twice in the second half to stun National League runner-up Yeti Airlines Himalayan Sherpa Club 2-0.
Bishal Rai A and Deepak Rai scored for the home team in the 55th and 85th minutes respectively.
National player Bharat Khawas, who appeared for the host team, was given his marching orders in the 39th minute after he was flashed a second yellow card by referee Pradip Basnet. He was earlier booked in the 29th minute.
The winning team bagged a purse of Rs 101,000 and the runner-up Himalayan Sherpa received Rs 51,000 along with shields, medals and certificates.
Bishal Rai A broke the deadlock 10 minutes into the second half with a powerful strike from the edge of the area in Buddha Chemjong´s pass. Deepak Rai ensured victory for the home team five minutes from time.
Sagarmatha created frequent scoring chances during the later stage of the second half but failed to convert them.
Bikram Limbu of the host was named the best player of the tournament and received a purse of Rs 15,000. The highest scorer award went to Deepak Rai of the host and Deepak Karki of Himalayan Sherpa. They received Rs 5,000 each.
Pukar Gahatraj of Himalayan Sherpa was declared the man-of-the-final. He was awarded Rs 2,000.
