  2 combatants detained in Hattikhor

REPUBLICA

KATHMANDU, April 15: Two Maoist combatants have been detained and allegedly tortured at Hattikhor cantonment, Nawalparasi by their commanders for vandalizing cantonment property and torching five vehicles belonging to the commander last Tuesday.

The combatants had taken the extreme measure as their demand for financial transparency ‘fell on deaf ears’.

The detained have been identified as Nishan, company vice commander and Nischal, section vice commander.

“Brigade commander Jems (Narendra Pandey) beat me up with sticks. I managed to get freed from detention with help from my comrades opted for voluntary retirement,” said Surya, a section commander by choosing voluntary retirement.

Surya said Nishan and Nishhal are still in detention and might have been tortured physically. He said they were held separately and their mobile phones had also been confiscated after arrest. “We were not even allowed to speak,” he said.
