  Japan welcomes progress in peace process

KATHMANDU, April 16: Japan has welcomed the latest development on the peace process, specifically the seven-point deal by reached political parties, resolving the disputed issues of integration of Maoist combatants into the national army.

“The Embassy of Japan in Nepal welcomes the latest political development on the peace process in which the major political parties have reached a seven-point agreement to resolve, once and for all, the disputed issues on the integration of former Maoist combatants into the Nepal Army,“ the embassy said in a press statement on Monday.

It has also commended the commitment by the leaders of the political parties to achieve the breakthrough, giving a momentum to complete the peace and constitution writing processes within the stipulated time.

Likewise, the statement said Japan, as an old friend of Nepal, wishes to see political leaders being united for the historic task of constitution writing as per the Nepali people’s aspirations.

It has also expressed willingness to extend its assistance to Nepal’s efforts in constitution writing and expressed confidence that the relations between the two countries would be further strengthened in the days to come.
