  Four sent to judicial custody for arms smuggling

ITAHARI, April 17: Four people including Maoist vice-commander were remanded to judicial custody for their alleged involvement in weapons smuggling.

Vice-commander of Maoist combatants Arun Subba (Sherma), Narayan Pakhrin, Bijaya Kumar Mandal and Rajkumar Ram were arrested a month ago while making arms deal. Mandal and Ram are Indian nationals of Jogbani.

The District Administration Office, Sunsari remanded them to judicial custody Tuesday and were sent to Jhumka Prison.

Subba, is the vice-commander at first division headquarter at Chulachuli camp in Ilam. Police said Pakhrin had been assisting Subba in weapon smuggling since long. Mandal and Ram supplied them weapons from India.

Police sub-inspector Gajendra Rayamajhi claimed Subba had admitted to his invovlement during the interrogation. The police recovered a US made pistol, two round of bullets, a magazine and masks from them.
