KATHMANDU, April 20: The Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities (NEFIN) and National Indigenous Women´s Federation (NIWF) have jointly submitted a six-point memorandum to UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal demanding guarantee of federal states along ethnic lines.
Maintaining that the seven-province model would not be acceptable to indigenous nationalities, NEFIN and NIWF have also demanded that the 14-state model proposed by State Restructuring Commission (SRC) be incorporated in the new constitution.
They have also demanded guarantee of rights to indigenous nationalities, minority groups and marginalized groups in the constitution.
In response, Maoist Chairman Dahal said that his party would be able to address their demands if they continue to support the Maoists.
Meanwhile, NEFIN has unveiled various protest programs including motorcycle rally, mass gatherings and Tarai banda on April 24 to press for their demands.
NEFIN and NIWF are scheduled to submit their memorandum to Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala on Friday and CPN-UML Chairman Jhalanath Khanal on Sunday.
