ITAHARI, April 24: Normal life has been affected due to a banda called by the Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities (NEFIN) across the Tarai region on Tuesday.
Public transportation on highways has come to a halt in eastern Tarai districts including Jhapa, Morang, Sunsari, Saptari and Siraha due to the banda.
The banda enforcers have, however, allowed two-wheelers and the means of transport belonging to emergency services such as hospital and the press.
The banda has also affected academic institutions, industries and marketplaces.
The NEFIN activisits have descended on the road since early this morning to enforce the strike. Police have detained eight NEFIN activists while they were trying to enforce the strike in Itahari.
The general people have been facing a tough time, with various outfits and organizations calling general shutdowns one after another in recent times.
The ethnic body has called today´s banda to press for timely promulgation of a ethnicity-based federalism constitution, among their other demands.
