REPUBLICA

UDAYPUR, April 24: Police on Tuesday detained three leaders associated with agitating Aadibasi Janajati Sangharsa Samiti in Gaighat of Udaypur district.

Those arrested include co-coordinator of the samiti Subas Kirati, among others. They were detained while enforcing the banda called by the samiti in Gaighat.

Samiti member Mohan Gole received minor injuries while trying to stop the police from detaining leaders. Police said the leaders were arrested for vandalizing vehicles.

Normal life was affected throughout the district due to the banda. The samiti said the banda was organized to protest police´s intervention in their “peaceful” torch rally on Monday evening.

The samiti has been demanding guarantee of identity-based federalism in the new constitution.
