KATHMANDU, April 26: Cricketer Sachin Tendulkar has been proposed as a member to the India’s upper house of parliament, Rajya Sabha, along with actress Rekha and businessman Anu Aga, Indian news sites reported.
A letter of recommendation has been sent by Prime Ministers Dr Manmohan Singh to President Pratibha Patel to this regard on Thursday.
If accepted, Tendulkar will become the first active sportsman in parliament, BBC reported.
Tendulkar who has been revered by millions of Indian cricket fans holds a record of first cricketer to score 100 international centuries.
The names of Tendulkar, who has brought many a laurel to the country through his exploits in the game, Rekha, known for her brilliant and emotional portrayals in Hindi cinema in the 80s, and industrialist and social worker Aga were sent by the Prime Minister to the home ministry yesterday for approval by the President, Times Of India reported.
