Lobsang Tashi wins Shikhar Insurance Cup

KATHMANDU, April 28: Lobsang Tashi lifted the title of the Shikhar Insurance Cup Golf Tournament 2012 at the Gokarna Forest Golf Resort, Kathmandu on Saturday. Lobsang, playing off five handicap, did exceptionally well to score 40 stableford points and clinched the title.

Lobsang defeated Keith Harrison on the count back. Keith also turned in a card of 40 stablford points playing with seven handicap.

Lobsang received a trophy, air ticket for Kathmandu-Kuala Lampur-Kathmandu courtesy of Nepal Airlines Corporation, and Golfing accessories. Keith settled for the best gross (second best prize of the tournament) and received a trophy and helicopter tour for four persons from Kathamndu to Langtang and back courtesy Mountain Helicopters.

Tendi Sherpa finished runner-up on the count back with the score of 39 points. Dibya Amatya, who scored 39 points, settled for third position.

Srijay Acharya was winner amongst the customers of Shikhar Insurance and overall fourth, while Hridesh Singh was runner-up and overall fifth. Both players scored 37 points and the tie was broken on count back.

Rekha Ghimire won the ladies´ title. She edged Dr Rita Thapa on the count back as both the players were tied at 28 points.

Lil Bahadur Gurung won the senior category (60 years and above) with the score of 35 points. Aditi Ghimire finished top in the juniors´ category with the score of 22 points in 9 holes.
Norbu Sherpa and Gunja Man Lama got awards for the longest drive and the closest to the pin respectively.

Shikhar Insurance Company Limited (SICL) Chairman Bikash SJB Rana, Directors of SICL Pradeep Jung Pandey and Rajendra Prasad Shrestha, CEO of SICL Dip Prakash Pandey and President of Gokarna Golf Club Suhrid Ghimire gave away the prizes to the winners.

Altogether 119 players, including 11 ladies and 9 juniors, took part in the one day tournament, which was played under stableford format with 3/4 handicap.
