Gathering of students close to Baidya today

KIRAN PUN

KATHMANDU, April 30: The rebel faction of the Maoist party, which has already formed three parallel committees, has called a national gathering of students close to it for Monday.

Confirming the national gathering of the All Nepal National Independent Students´ Union-Revolutionary (ANNISU-R), the organization´s Vice Chairman Sharad Rasaili said the gathering would discuss the formation of a parallel committee of the student wing.

"It is natural to go seperate ways when there are differences in ideology," said Rasaili, who is close to the rebel faction led by Senior Vice Chairman Mohan Baidya, "The national gathering will decide whether to form a parallel committee or not."

The rebel faction has already held national gathering of laborers and workers, people´s volunteers and ex-PLA, and has formed their parallel committees, indicating ever widening rift in the party.

According to Rasaili, around 600 student leaders, including seven each from districts outside Kathmandu, will participate in the gathering which party general secretary Ram Bahadur Thapa will address.

"The organization could not launch any activities due to the intra-party conflict. It has become necessary to reset the [student] organization to make it efficient and strong and take the student movement to a new height," said Rasaili.

Meanwhile, trade union leaders close to Vice Chairman Baburam Bhattarai say they would be compelled to form a parallel committee of the trade union if the decisions of last year´s party standing committee were not implemented.

The standing committee had dissolving three rival factions led by Shalik Ram Jamkattel, Badri Bajgain and Lal Dhwaj Nembang and decided to hold national conference.

"We will activate our committee if the party cannot not implement the standing committee´s decision," said Nembag, leader of the Bhattrai factions of All Nepal Trade Federation (ANTF) called ANTF campaign for pressure.
