KATHMANDU, May 2: The CPN-UML has formally demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai to pave the way for formation of a consensus government. A meeting of the party´s standing committee on Wednesday concluded that the prime minister´s resignation has become “urgent”.
“The new constitution would be acceptable to all only if there is a consensus government in place," said CPN-UML Secretary Shankar Pokharel about the party standing committee´s decision.
According to Pokharel, the party also decided to remain open to the leadership of the government.
"We are open to accepting any other Maoist leader to lead the consensus government after the prime minister resigns," said Pokharel.
