KATHMANDU, May 5: Kathmandu Second Corporate Five-A-Side-Football Tournament kicked off on Saturday at the Madhyapur Youth Association in Bhaktapur.

Achieving success in the group stage matches, Himalayan Bank, Janta Bank, DECC, Civil Bank, Surya Nepal, Citizens Bank, Nepal Investment Bank and United Spirit made it to the quarterfinals.

In the quarterfinals to be played on Sunday, Himalayan Bank will meet Janta Bank, DECC will take on Civil Bank, Surya Nepal will meet Citizens Bank and Investment Bank will lock horns against United Spirit.

During group A matches on Saturday, Himalayan Bank and Sunrise Bank secured place in the last eight as the winner and runner up of the group respectively.
Himalayan Bank defeated Nepal Republic Media, Sunrise Bank and Citizen Bank. Citizens edged past Sunrise and Nepal Republic Media.


Group B winner DECC edged past Terai TV and Munz Ad, and shared points with United Spirits. United Spirit defeated Munz Ad and played draw against Terai TV to finish runner up of the group.

In group C, Surya Nepal and Janta Bank advanced into the next stage as the winner and runner up. Surya Nepal saw off Janta Bank and host Himalayan Brewery and played draw against Zenith Travels. Janta defeated Himalayan Brewery and Zenith. Group D champion Investment Bank edged past H and B Development Bank and Civil Bank. The runner up from same group Civil defeated H and B.

Earlier, Binod Raj Gyawali, the managing director of Nepal Republic Media inaugurated the tournament. The quarterfinal, semifinal and third place match of the tournament organized by Himalayan Brewery will be held on Sunday.
