  Mahato elected Sadbhawana Party chairman

SURESH YADAV

JANAKPUR, May 6: Sadbhawana Party (SP) has elected Rajendra Mahato as its new chairman.

Mahato was unanimously elected as the chairman in the party´s fifth general assembly held in Janakpur on Sunday after two of his contenders -- Ananda Prakash Pandey and Ananda Prakash Gupta -- withdrew their candidacy.

Pandey withdrew his candidacy saying he is not competent for the post while Gupta quit the race ´for the sake of party unity´.

Amending the party´s statute, the Madhes-based party has allocated two seats each for non-Madhesi men and women in the 61-member central committee to ensure inclusiveness.

Similarly, SP has reserved one seat each for male and female from indigenous communities.

Also, one seat each has been allocated for Dalit male and female. Likewise, SP has reserved two seats for Muslim male and one for female while two seats have been reserved for Madhesi women.
