KATHMANDU, May 7: CPN-UML-affiliated All Nepal National Free Students Union (ANNFSU) has enforced a complete shutdown of all academic institutions on Monday, protesting police intervention in its torch rally Sunday evening.
The UML student wing had organized a torch rally last evening in the capital, demanding release of student leaders who were arrested during a scuffle between ANNFSU activists and Nepali Congress-aligned Nepal Students Union (NSU) cadres at the Chabahil-based Pashupati Campus days ago.
"There was no prior notice. They asked us to close schools for today," said Geeta Rana, chairman of NPABSON and principal of Galaxy Public School. "The classes have already started, now we are preparing to send the students back home."
ANNFSU activists also staged demonstrations in front of colleges in the capital this morning, protesting police crackdown on its rally.
