Court sends journo 'murderers' to judicial custody

RAJU ADHIKARI

JHAPA, May 9: Jhapa District Court sent murder accused of Jhapa-based journalist Yadav Poudel to judicial custody on Wednesday.

Somraj Dhakal and his wife Manju Dhakal , owners of the Birtamod bus park-based Purwanchal Sekuwa Corner Hotel and Lodge, and Hoteliers’ Association’s former chairman Yubaraj Giri--a man claimed to be mastermind of murder--have been sent to judicial custody by the court.

Meanwhile, the other accused Madan Rai has been released in general date after he deposited bail amount of Rs 27,000.

A preliminary police investigation had concluded that journalist Poudel was killed by would-be publisher Giri.

According to police, a scuffle broke out between Giri and Poudel after the latter embraced Manju -- the wife of the hotel owner Dhakal.

Police say that the scuffle occurred when Giri forced Poudel to take his hands off Manju. Police also claim that Giri became furious with Poudel when the latter embraced Manju because they were in a secret affair.
