  Lightning kills two, 5 injured

SOLUKHUMBU, May 10: Lightning on Thursday night killed two women and injured five in Solukhumbu district. It also seriously damaged FM radio and telecommunications towers.

The lightening accompanied by heavy rain and storm at around 3 am killed 38-year-old Sanu Pemba Shrepa of Tingla VDC -2 when she had stepped out of her house to get a mattress. She had given birth to a baby boy a day before.

Similarly, local of Salyan VDC - 3 Tilkumari Nepali, 40, died while five others were injured by a lightining. The injured are being treated at a local health center.

The adverse weather also damaged telecom and FM lines and towers. According to Manoj Shrestha, station manager of Solu FM, a recently fitted solar system that cost of Rs 1.6 million was fully burnt due to the lightning. On the other hand, mobile service in Salleri and Faplu remains disrupted after the telecommunications towers were damaged by the lightning.
