  NPC, Mohun Bagan clash today

REPUBLICA

KATHMANDU, May 12: National League Champion Nepal Police Club will take on I-league side McDowells Mohun Bagan at the Dasharath Stadium on Saturday in a friendly match.

NPC, which won British Gurkha Cup two weeks ago, arrived home on Friday afternoon as it was in Cambodia to participate in the AFC President´s Cup Qualifiers.

"My boys are tired because of back to back matches as we played British Gurkha Cup and the AFC President´s Cup Qualifiers in last three weeks," said NPC coach Birat Krishna Shrestha.

"Some of my boys were injured before playing in the Presidents Cup. They are yet to recover. Meanwhile, we have limited number of players and we lack substitutes in certain positions," said Shrestha. "However, we are a professional side and we´ll try to put up a good show," he added.

Citing injury problems and back-to-back matches, NPC has asked ANFA to provide national team players Bharat Khawas, Santosh Sahukhala, Biraj Maharjan, Kiran Chemjong and Sandeep Rai to include in its squad and ANFA has approved the request.

"The invited players will be used in the positions, where we lack first choice players and substitution. However, I´ll try to maintain NPC´s style in the team," said coach Shrestha.

"We´ll try to maintain ball possession at first and formulate strategies as per the opponent´s play," he added.

Shrestha rated the opponents as a good side of South Asia.

Meanwhile, the Indian giant club arrived in Kathmandu on Thursday for the friendly match.

Mohun Bagan finished fourth in the I-league last season and is in Kathmandu with almost same team.

"We are not here for a competition but to play a friendly match. However, we´ll give our best to please our fans since we are a professional side," said Sunil Chhetri, striker of Mohun Bagan and the captain of the Indian national team.

The match will kick off at 7 pm under the floodlights at the Dasharath Stadium.
