KATHMANDU, May 14: Here is a good news for sea food lovers. Bluefin Fresh Mart has opened in Jhamsikhel, offering wide range of sea food imported directly from Thailand to Nepali customers.
Bluefin currently sells 41 different varieties of sea food. Of them, 13 are refrigerated ones and are semi processed, while 7 are ready to eat items that come in instant packaging. Similarly, 13 varieties are dried products.
The store has been established with an investment of Rs 10 million. It imports and sells sea food in collaboration with a Thai firm named Thai Union Frozen (TUF).
“We import high quality products packed in such a way that outer temperature does not affect it,” said Sugam Acharya, CEO of Bluefin Fresh Mart, adding that Bluefin is the first specialized sea food store in Nepal.
According to Acharya, Bluefin sells products that have received quality certification from International Sustainability Foundation (ISF) Laboratory of the United States of America. The quality of sea foods available at Bluefin is better compared to sea foods available in other stores as they are kept in freezers, even inside the aircraft at the time of import, said Acharya.
“In cooperation with Thai Airways, we make sea food available in Nepal within 48 hours of their harvest,” Acharya informed. “We provide fresh sea food at cheaper price compared to other stores.”
According to Acharya, other stores in the capital bring sea food through Kolkata which takes longer time.
Sea foods at Bluefin are priced between Rs 50 and Rs 5,000 per piece. Customers can get frozen shrimp, salmon, frozen Thai lobster, starfish, budsara fillet, tuna saku, prawn, Norwegian smoked salmon, fresh dolly fillet calamari and squid among others at Bluefin. Besides, the store also sells 16 varieties of local meat.
In addition to meat and sea food, Bluefin also sells fish noodles and fish cakes.
Though Blufin started operation just about a week ago, it is planning to open a new outlet at Bhaisepati within a month and four new outlets in different parts of the valley within this year. Besides, the company is aiming to open 12 more outlets through franchising.
