DHANKUTA, May 16: Demanding that the Dhankuta town be announced the provincial capital after the countries adopts federalism, locals have shut down all academic institutions, marketplaces and shops in the district on Wednesday.
Transport services have come to a grinding halt, giving commuters a tough time due to the shutdown enforced by youths affiliated to various political parties. The banda is meant to draw the government´s attention to their demand, Dinesh Aathpahariya, an agitator, said.
Youths have been rallying on the road, enforcing a total shut down beginning Tuesday. They have obstructed traffic at the Zero Point at the Dhankuta bus park and brought vehicular movement to a complete halt along the Koshi Highway, leaving vehicles en-route to Tehrathum, Sankhuwasabha and Bhojpur stranded.
Banda enforcers have warned of ´physical action´ against those defying the banda. Earlier, the Dhankuta Chamber of Commerce and industry, the district chapters of Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities and Federation of Nepali Journalists have rallied on the road to press for their demand.
