KATHMANDU, May 17: Nepal Shotokan Karate Association (JNSKA) is organizing the Sixth JNSKA International Karate Championship 2012 and technical and referee seminar from May 29 to June 3 in the capital.
According to a press statement issued by JNSKA on Thursday, the championship will be held on May 29 and 30 while the technical and referee seminar will be held for four days starting May 31.
"We have expected that the tournament will promote sports tourism in the country and also uplift the standard of players," the statement said.
Altogether 1,000 players from nine countries including host Nepal, Japan, Ghana, the UAE, India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan will compete in the event.
In the championship, 100 players will represent Nepal while the rest will be foreigners.
The Shotokan style or age group will feature 16 categories and Oko style or weight categories will feature events in 29 different categories.
Meanwhile, a main organizing committee has been formed under the chairmanship of Bishnu Bahadur Karki, the president of JNSKA. General Secretary and chief coach Shyam Sherpa is the member secretary.
