KATHMANDU, May 18: At least 76 people were arrested from the capital on Friday during the general strike called by Rastraya Prajatantra Party-Nepal (RPP-N). The police said the arrests were made after some people vandalized vehicles and started using force to shut down the market.
Among the arrested were Chandra Bahadur Gurung, an RPP-N lawmaker, and his two companions.
They were arrested from Ekantakuna, Lalitpur, and released after a short while. RPP-N cadres have also vandalized 12 vehicles, including an ambulance, in Kathmandu and Lalitpur for violating the strike called by the party.
The supporters vandalized an ambulance (Ba 1 Jha 2217) of Kanti Children Hospital at Samakhusi. They also damaged a taxi (Ba 1 Ja 4701) at Old Bus Park, another another one (Ba 1 Ja 1086) at Tudal Devi, a tempo (Ba 1 Ha 3879) at Bijuli Bazaar, microbuses (Ba 1 Ja 8349) and (Ba 1 Ja 8422) at Samakhushi and at Chappal Karkhana.
A passenger, Dhani Ram Thapa, 45, was injured when RPP-N cadres shattered glasses of a micro bus (Ba 1 Ja 7628) at Pratima chowk of Lalitpur. Another bus (BA 2 Ka 517) was damaged at Satdobato.
