Maoist Madhesi lawmakers against 11-state model

REPUBLICA

KATHMANDU, May 20: Madhesi lawmakers from UCPN (Maoist)on Sunday voiced their dissent against the 11-state federal model earlier agreed by top brass of the three major political parties.

Issuing a press statement, they have alleged that the proposal is against spirits of the interim constitution of Nepal as well as all pacts reached at different times in the past.

They have also said the model ignores identity and viability, two major determinants of state restructuring and added the proposal is unlikely to address concerns of Madhesis, Janajatis, Dalits, Muslims and other minority groups.

They have further expressed their solidarity with Madhesi, Tharu and Janajati communities  in their ongoing agitation. Prabhu Sah, Devendra Patel, Ram Kumar Yadav and Mahendra Paswan are among the Maoist Madhesi lawmakers signing the statement.
