KATHMANDU, May 22: Four Nepali taekwondo players, including the 11th South Asian Games (SAG) gold medalist Ayasha Shakya, are set to participate in the 12th World University Games (WUG) to be held in South Korea from May 25 to 30.
Along with Shakya, SAG bronze medalist Yan Kumari Chaulagain, Pushpa Thapa and Anil Maharjan are set to represent Nepal in the event organized by the International University Sports Federation (FISU).
Four-time SAG gold medalist Deepak Bista is the coach of the Nepali taekwondo team, which will fly to Korea on Wednesday.
Bista said that the University Games could be a good platform for Nepali players to get exposure. "Players from all over the world will arrive in Korea. In terms of the number of participants, the event is second biggest after Olympics," claimed Bista.
According to Bista, the Nepali team has been training for a week and they are expecting to make the participation a fruitful.
"We have experienced players and I´m hopeful the Korea tour would be fruitful," said Bista, also the better half of Ayasha Shakya. "The event would prepare Nepali players for the upcoming 12th SAG," he added.
