BJP concerned over failure to draft constitution

REPUBLICA

KATHMANDU, May 28: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the main opposition party of India, has expressed its serious concern over the expiry of the Constituent Assembly (CA) term of Nepal.

Issuing a press statement on Monday, former chairman of BJP Rajnath Singh said that major Nepali political parties and their leaders failed to form any consensus on major issues despite their repeated assurances of promulgating a fully democratic constitution.

He added that failure to respect such pledges would be a serious hurdle to Nepal’s mission for peace, democracy, political stability and economic prosperity.

Leader Singh has also appealed to Nepali people to not be divided on caste and ethnic lines which undermine the long-standing social harmony in the Nepali society.
