Dahal's offer to resign ploy to defame Baidya faction: Thapa
REPUBLICA
KATHAMANDU, June 2: Maoist General Secretary Ram Bahadur Thapa, a close aide to Senior Vice-chairman Mohan Baidya, has dismissed the announcement made by party Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal that he is ready to step down for the sake of party unity.
Thapa termed Dahal´s announcement a ploy to remain in power.
Addressing a closed-door meeting of the All Nepal Trade Union Federation (ANTUF) of Newa state committee in the capital, Thapa claimed Dahal´s proposal was merely a ploy to portray Baidya faction in a bad light.
Addressing a meeting of CC members close to him at party headquarter on Friday, Chairman Dahal had announced that he was ready to quit from his post for party unity.
"As we have known him for years, we have no doubts that his (Dahal) proposal is just another ploy to portray us as power hungry faction," a participant quoted Thapa as saying. He also said the offer is an obvious outcome as Dahal, who has shown extreme deviation from the party ideology, has already surrendered to the reactionary forces.
"Dahal does not have the moral right to continue to hold the post of party chairman since all his strategies related to peace and constitution have failed,” Thapa added.
