June 15 may see birth of new party: Gajurel

AJIT TIWARI

BIRATNAGAR, June 10: UCPN (Maoist) Secretary CP Gajurel has hinted that a gathering of the dissident faction led by Mohan Baidya scheduled for June 15 may form a separate party.

Addressing an interaction organized by Revolutionary Journalists´ Association in Biratnagar on Saturday, Gajurel said, "There is a possibility of a new party with distinct identity. A new party is also the need of the hour."

Gajurel, however, said that the party would be named a Maoist party even if the faction decides to part ways. “We will form one strong revolutionary party, he said.

Accusing party Chairman Dahal and caretaker Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai of conspiring against the faction, he said, "No one can stop the gatherings. The gathering will take a historical decision.”

He also brushed aside allegations that they would take up arms after splitting the party. "We will start urban-centric movement. We will stay in city and participate in politics," he said. "Armed movement is our last option."

Gajurel also ruled out the possibility of UCPN (Maoist) securing two-thirds majority in the next CA election. “The strength of the party will become known in the fresh election," he further said, adding that the party had considerably lost credibility owing to Dahal and Bhattarai.

Gajurel also said that an all-party round table conference is the only option left for parties to be able to promulgate a new constitution. "New election is not possible. This is both politically and constitutionally illegal and an immoral decision," he added.
