No alternative to fresh polls: PM

REPUBLICA

DHARAN, June 9:  Caretaker Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai has reiterated that there is no alternative to fresh Constituent Assembly (CA) polls.

Addressing the ninth convocation ceremony of BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Dharan, Bhattarai urged all the political parties to be ready for fresh CA polls.

In his long written speech, the caretaker prime minister argued that it is the responsibility of all political parties to end the transitional phase by holding fresh CA polls on time.
“Since the CA has already seen its demise on May 27, there is no alternative other than to go for fresh polls,” he added. Arguing that new constitution could not be promulgated on May 27 due to unwillingness of NC and the UML to accept ethnic-based federalism, he said fresh CA election would help do away with the current confusion and uncertainties.
