Coca Cola Cup from Thursday

KATHMANDU, June 11: The first round of Coca Cola Cup Inter-school Boys´ and Girls´ National Football Tournament will begin from Thursday, organizer All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) announced on Monday during a press conference.

According to Dhirendra Pradhan, the general secretary of ANFA, the tournament will feature matches in two rounds with participation of 511 schools.

The first round will feature knockout matches at various regional venues and the teams who qualify for the second round will play matches in Kathmandu on league cum knockout format.

The first round matches of Central Region will begin on Thursday in the capital with participation of highest 176 teams in boy´s category and 20 in girl´s. The first round matches of Western Region will be held in Pokhara and Butwal, Far-western Region in Dhangadi, Mid-western in Nepalgunj and Eastern Region in Biratnagar.

The initial round match in Butwal will be participated by 40 boys´ and five girls´ teams, 77 boys´ and 17 girls´ team in Pokhara, 35 boys´ and 9 girls´ team in Nepalgunj, 25 boys´ and five girls´ team in Dhanghadi, and 95 boys´ and 7 girls´ team in Biratnagar.

Meanwhile, ANFA is yet to finalize the number of teams for the tournament´s second round. The previous edition featured 12 teams in the final round.

The top four teams in both boys´ and girls´ categories will receive cash prizes of Rs 200,000, Rs 100,000, Rs 50,000 and Rs 25,000 respectively.

The chief sponsor of the tournament Coca Cola will provide Rs 1.5 million and Ministry of Youth and Sports Rs 1.8 million to conduct the tournament. The expected cost of the tournament is Rs 4 million. ANFA will bear the remaining cost of the tournament.

According to ANFA President Ganesh Thapa, ANFA was planning to conduct the events in all 45 districts whose associations are affiliated with it. Thapa also revealed the plan to name ANFA Academy as Coca Cola ANFA Academy.
