KATHMANDU, June 12: Under the part of British Defense Restructuring, around 320 more British Gurkhas out of 2,900 are set to lose their job.
According to a press statement issued by the British Embassy in Kathmandu, the British Army on Tuesday notified the Gurkhas who have been selected for the second round of redundancies.
"The Brigade of Gurkhas has been growing in size since modernization in 2007, which also allowed them to serve 22 years instead of 15. This reduction in numbers has therefore been anticipated for some time," reads the press statement.
According to the statement, the affected personnel will be given 12 months notice and will be given a comprehensive program of resettlement into civilian life and help with future employment.
