No alternative to November 22 CA polls: Gachchhadar

BIRATNAGAR, June 13: Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Bijaya Kumar Gachchhadar said on Wednesday that there is no alternative to new elections of Constituent Assembly (CA) and that the polls will be held on November 22, as has been declared by Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai.
Talking to media persons in Biratnagar, Gachchhadar said, "By forging consensus among political parties, the government will hold new CA elections on Nov 22.” The CA got dissolved on May 27 without being able to accomplishing its task of delivering a new constitution.
"After failing once in SLC exams, won´t you appear for the exams again," he said . He claimed that the political parties have failed in the exams for a first time but will be successful in a second attempt.
"The CA got dissolved in line with the Supreme Court order, so it cannot be resurrected," he added. He also argued that the new constitution cannot be drafted by any team of experts or commissions. "If a team of experts or commission can draft the new constitution, then what is the use of spending so much on elections," he said.
Gachchhadar further added that agitation called by opposition parties does not have a strong backing and that there’s no need to get worried by their protest programs.
"They obstruct the constitution drafting process and does not want to go for elections as well, why are the Nepali Congress and CPN-UML skeptical about this whole affair," he questioned. Gachchadar is currently in his home district of Sunsari to attend a program slated for today.
