  Mahindra Genio hits the road

REPUBLICA

KATHMANDU, June 17: Genio - a multi-utility vehicle from the Mahindra stable - has hit the Nepali roads. Agni Incorporated that represents Mahindra four-wheelers in Nepal introduced the vehicle amid a function in the capital on Sunday.

The company has launched two Genio variants -- Genio SC (single cabin) and Genio DC (double cabin) - in the local market. It received booking for 19 Genios in the first day itself.

Genio SC and DC comes with a build and finish quality unseen amongst other commercial vehicle, according to Agni Incorporated. It offers a power packed performance with its mDI Common Rail Diesel Engine (CRDe) engine which is equipped with 75 HP power and 220 Nm torque, allowing it to handle any kind of load and terrain with ease.

Bardan Basnet, general manager sales and marketing at Agni, said MUVs have high market potential in Nepal because of rough terrains here. We are hopeful that Genio will attract entrepreneurs, businessmen and individuals, added Basnet.

The new vehicle features independent suspension, coil spring and hydraulic double acting shock absorbers at the front and rear leaf spring and telescopic shock absorbers at the rear. It has ventilated disc brakes at the front and drum brakes at the rear. “With this suspension and brakes, Genio will definitely make ride smoother and comfortable in rough Nepali roads,” added Basnet.

The unique grille design and aggressive bumper gives the vehicle the stance of a utility vehicle. The metallic silver color enhances its appeal, while the interiors of the vehicle could be seen as a benchmark in the industry, Agni Incorporated said in a statement distributed at the launching ceremony.

The company claims Genio is far ahead of its contemporaries in terms of technology and safety features. Due to mDI CRDe technology, the oil change interval of the vehicle is 20,000 km. It has Load Sensing Proportioning Valve (LSPV) brakes which adjusts the braking pressure depending on the load of the vehicle. It offers SLR seat belts for the safety of the driver and passengers. Genio comes fitted with radial tubeless tires that ensure that the tires do not burst in case of a puncture, especially on the highway.

The new vehicle has adjustable power steering, 80.5 cubic feet cabin space, semi bucket seats with front back adjustment and recliner and independent front suspension for more comfort, floor console with a mobile charging point, bottle holder and coin holder etc. It has the shortest turning radius among pickups of 6.15 meters. Besides, measuring the distance and mileage is easy in Genio as it has an in-built trip meter in the instrument cluster.

Genio is available in four color options: silver shine (metallic), diamond white, marvel granite and skyline blue. Its fuel tank capacity is 55 liters.

The single cab Genio is priced Rs 1.69 million, while the semi option double cab costs Rs 1.99 million. Genio double cab with full options is available at Rs 2.26 million.
