Fibro scan service introduced in Nepal

RSS

KATHMANDU, June 18: Fibro scan service has been introduced in Nepal which can test the toughness of the liver without any surgery.

The National Reference Laboratories New Baneswor has started the new service for the first time in Nepal. It can provide information on how much damage has been made to lever because of Hepatitis B and C and the toughness of lever caused by alcohol consumption.

Dr. Sudhamshu KC said the test can be undertaken in just five to ten minutes without giving the patient any pain and report can be given immediately.
If the lever is tough, hands and legs are swollen, water is accumulated in stomach and vomiting of blood is caused, doctors said.

Earlier, one had to go to India for such test. The equipment was brought from the Centre for Lever Disease France, the Laboratories said.

The technology can help trace the problem which cannot be found out from ultra sound.
