  Nepal ready for Asia Cup

KATHMANDU, June 19: Nepali U-19 cricket team is upbeat to face big teams like India and Pakistan in the ACC U-19 Asia Cup scheduled to be held from June 23 to July 1 in Malaysia. The Nepali team will head for Malaysia on Thursday for the tournament.

Nepali coach Pubudu Dassanayake said India and Pakistan are good teams but his players are ready to face them and throw a tough challenge. “We will take a game at a time and hope to bring good results.”

Nepali U-19 team was kept in a closed camp for four weeks under coach Pubudu Dassanayake and Jagat Tamata. The team had played practice matches against the senior team and also with other teams.

Coach Dassanayake said the team is ready for the tournament after four-and-a-half weeks´ training. “The training went well as per the plan and the team is in a strong position.”

Prithu Baskota will lead the team comprising Pradeep Airee, Rajesh Pulami, Sagar Pun, Naresh Budhayair, Krishna Karki, Avinas Karn, Faizlur Rehman, Subhas Khakurel and Rahul BK. Hasim Ansari, Gopal Kumar Singh, Saurav Khanal and Ram Naresh Giri are the new faces in the Nepali U-19 team.

U-19 Asia Cup schedule revised

Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has revised the match schedules of ACC U-19 Asia Cup as Nepal will face Pakistan in the opening match at Bayuemas Oval, Kuala Lumpur on June 23. In the earlier fixture released by ACC, Nepal´s first match was against India at the Kinrara Oval, Kuala Lumpur.

Nepal will meet hosts Malaysia at Royal Selangor Turf Club on June 25 and India at Bayuemas Oval on June 26.

Nepal is in Group A whereas Group B consists of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Qatar and Sri Lanka.

The top two teams from each group will qualify for the semifinals to be played on June 28 and 29. The final is on July 1. All the matches will be of 50 overs.
