  17 injured, 4 critically, in bus accident

LAHAN, June 22: A passenger bus met with an accident near Sarswotikhola at Medinapur along the East-West Highway on Friday morning, leaving 17 people on board injured, four critically.

Those critically injured are Tej Bahadur Rokka, 30, of Mulkharka-1, Sankhuwasabha, Ratna Tamang, 42, of Change-6, Taplejung, Dipendra Ram, 22, of Bhokraha-8, Sunsari and the bus driver Subhash Thapa, 30, of Dangihat, Morang.

The bus driver is undergoing treatment at Nobel Medical College and the rest at Neuro Hospital in Biratnagar, police said.

The mishap happened after the bus (Ba 4 Kha 1041) en route to Kakadbhitta from Kathmandu rear-ended a truck (Na 2 Kha 2630) at around 5 am along the Lokmarg road section of the highway, eye witnesses said.

Police said the bus, then, fell some 50 meters down from the road. The incident site is located some 5 kilometers west of the Lahan.
