  Nepal to face Pakistan today

REPUBLICA

KATHMANDU, June 23: Nepal will face Pakistan in the opening match of the ACC U-19 Asian Cup on Saturday at Bayuemas Oval in the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur.

Nepal has faced Pakistan in five different tournaments, losing three time, winning once while the fifth match was abandoned.

Nepal´s only victory against the regional neighbor came during the ICC U-19 World Cup at Lincoln Green, New Zealand in 2002 when Nepal beat Pakistan by 30 runs.

In ICC U-19 World Cup played in Sri Lanka, the match against Pakistan was abandon without a ball being bowled.

Besides those two matches, Pakistan defeated Nepal in U-21 match during the 11th South Asian Games held in Bangladesh. Likewise, Nepal slumped to a three-wicket defeat against Pakistan in the third place playoff. In the SAARC Under-25 Twenty20 Cup, Pakistan defeated Nepal by 73 runs.

Before heading toward Malaysia, Nepal´s coach Pubudu Dassanayake said Pakistan was a good team and the boys will need to give their best.

“ In the past Nepal has defeated Pakistan in the U-19 World Cup so the players are in the high note. If the team defeats Pakistan in the opening match, they will be motivated for matches against Malaysia and India.”

Skipper Prithu Baskota said that the team was in good shape and they were ready to face Pakistan. “We have all-round team and our main attack is bowling.”
