  KUHS girls to participate in Norway Cup

KATHMANDU, June 25: Under-16 girls´ team of the Kathmandu University High School (KUHS), Kavre is all set to participate in the Norway Cup Football Festival to be held in Oslo from July 29 to August 4.

KUHS organized a press conference in the capital on Monday to announce their participation in the Norway Cup, where around 30,000 players from 52 countries are expected to participate.

According to school Principal Tejendra Rajbhandari, the girls´ team will fly to Norway on July 27. "We´ll participate in the ´Class R´ section of the tournament," said Rajbhandari.

According to Rajbhandari, the KUHS girls played 12 matches for warm-up after they received confirmation on their participation in the Norway Cup and won two titles in the course. KUHS girls had claimed Guheshwari Girls Football Championship and Father Nielsen Cup earlier this month.

KUHS will start special training program from next week for the Norway Cup football festival.

"We formed KUHS girls´ team two years ago targeting the Coca-Cola Inter School National Girls´ Football Tournament and our team has made tremendous progress after coach Pradeep Humagain took the charge," said Rajbhandari.

According to Rajbhandari, the parents of the participants will bear all the expenses of the Norway tour. "We are also looking for sponsors to fund our participation," said Rajbhandari.

The KUHS team will be led by Captain Shrawana Shrestha and guided by the coach Humagain. The team includes Jyotsana Shrestha, Dilasha Manandhar, Pratistha Sakha, Rajshree Pandey, Shlesha Shrestha, Akriti Chhetri, Ritika Thapa, Apeksha Bajracharya, Sofina Dahal, Akirta Shakya, Kabya Shrestha, Swarnima Lamichhane, Maya Rokka, Saru KC and Ningma Dolma Tamang.

Coach Humagain said that his team will gain exposure and establishing cordial relations with other participating teams. "We´ll not only try to win matches there but also establish cordial relations with other teams and invite them to Nepal for friendly matches," said Humagain.
