KATHMANDU, June 28: Monica Yunus, a prominent opera singer and daughter of Bangladeshi Nobel Peace Prize recipient Dr Muhammad Yunus and his Russian wife will be visiting Kathmandu on the first week of July with her husband Brandon McReynolds.
A soprano of the Metropolitan Opera in New York, Monica is also a co-founding director of ‘Sing for Hope Foundation.’
Monica is here on the invitation of the organizers of Nepal Music Festival which starts from the mid September. Nepal Music Festival’s Chairman, Ranjan Ojha said, “She will reach here on July 2 and will spend a night in Nagarkot and two nights in Kathmandu.”
Monica will be flying to Kathmandu after she first stops at Bangladesh. Once she is here, Monica will talk about the cooperation between the Nepal Music Festival and her Sing for Hope Foundation. Agreements have already been reached for ‘Music for peace’ and ‘Playing for Change.’
The festival’s objective is to bring forth the culture, art and the natural beauty of the country to the rest of the world and also to spread the message of peace and development.
This is her first visit to Nepal and she has spoken to the organizers about learning more about Nepal. She has also expressed a desire to go for a short hiking trip.
