Road expansion drive resumes in capital

REPUBLICA ONLINE

KATHMANDU, June 30: Despite stiff resistance from locals, the Kathmandu Valley Town Development Authority (KVTDA) in collaboration with Metropolitan Traffic Police Division on Saturday bulldozed roadside infrastructures constructed along the Lazimpat-Maharajgunj road section in the capital.

Vehicles have been barred from entering the area to facilitate the demolition drive.

The demolition started months after locals of the area have taken to streets protesting against the government and demanding compensation for the losses.

The demolition drive started in a bid to expand the existing roads in the country.

Around 41 km road has been widened in the valley so far.
