  SPORTS BRIEFS: National lifts 3X3 title

KATHMANDU, July 1: National Campus on Sunday lifted the title of First Angel´s Heart 3X3 Basketball Tournament. In the final held at the court of Angel´s Heart, National defeated Deep Jyoti 21-12. Rakesh Shrestha scored seven points for the winning team.

With the win, National bagged Rs 3,500 while Deep Jyoti pursed Rs 2,500. Neric Academy finished third with an 18-8 win over Universal and pursed Rs 1,500.

Morgan starts National Basketball with win

KATHMANDU: Morgan College started the Morgan Cup 12th Men´s and 11th Women´s National Basketball Championship on a winning note on Sunday. In the match played at its home court, Morgan defeated Navodit Club 97-78. Morgan took the first quarter 24-9. However, Navodit bounced back to tie the second quarter 19-19 but it was still behind by 15 points in the overall scores.

Morgan took the third quarter 31-25 and lost the fourth quarter 23-25. U-18 national player Ashim Shrestha scored 28 points for the winning team. Pol Bikram Ale netted 21 points for the losing team.

Upreti wins singles TT

KATHMANDU: Pukar Upreti of host Bern Hardt on Sunday clinched the men´s singles title of First Bern Hardt Inter-college Table Tennis Tournament held at the host court Bafal, Kathmandu. Upreti defeated Devratna Maharjan of same college 3-2. Upreti won the first two sets 11-7, 11-9, but lost the third and fourth 9-11, 6-11. He registered a hard fought 13-11 win in the deciding set. Altogether 100 players from 15 colleges had participated in the tournament.
