CHITWAN, July 4: The police have arrested former Nepal Army (NA) Major General Sagar Shamser JBR, who was arrested on the charge of hunting down a wild deer, immediately after being released on a bail by Chitwan National Park.
The District Police Office of Nawalparasi has said that Shamser was arrested on Tuesday on the charge of possessing illegal arms.
Shamser was arrested along with NA Captain Kuldev Kunwar and former Warrant Officer (first class) Sitaram Karki by the locals and later handed over to the CNP administration for killing a deer in a buffer zone-based forest on June 13. The locals had also seized a gun and a car from Shamser.
“The gun used by Shamser for killing the deer has been registered in his wife´s name. It has also been revealed that he purchased the bullets illegally,” said CNP warden Jhamak Bahadur Karki. “The district office of government attorney has suggested that Shamsher be charged with possessing illegal arms.”
According to Karki, Shamser can be either sentenced to two years in jail or fined Rs 10,000. Therefore, he was released on a bail of Rs 28,250. Karki has also been released on bail.
As he was not arrested in possession of illegal arms, Karki was not arrested by the police. On the other hand, the NA has initiated court marshal proceedings against Captain Kunwar.
