  SPORTS BRIEFS: Malaysia to host WCL Div 4 in September

KATHMANDU, July 4: The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Wednesday announced that Malaysia will host the Pepsi ICC World Cricket League (WCL) Division 4 from September 3 to 10, 2012.

Six teams will compete for the opportunity to finish in the top two of the event and ultimately gain promotion to the Pepsi ICC WCL Division 3 to be held next year.

The teams -- Denmark, Nepal, USA, Singapore, Tanzania and host Malaysia -- will play in Kuala Lumpur, which had also hosted the Pepsi ICC WCL Division 6 in 2011.
The tournament will be played at the Kinrara Oval, Selangor Turf Club and Royal Selangor Club. Full schedule and match officials will be unveiled later, said ICC.

Army registers first win

KATHMANDU: Nepal Army registered its first win in the men´s section of the Morgan Cup 12th Men´s and 11th Women´s National Basketball Championship on Wednesday while women of Golden Gate Club also pulled off their first victory in the tournament. Nepal Army thrashed Far Western Region 90-31 in the match played at the National Sports Council Covered Hall as Sitaram Ghimire scored 20 points.

Far Western is out of the tournament with three consecutive defeats while Army restored semifinal hope with the win. Army took all the quarters 26-02, 25-13, 16-2 and 23-14. Milan Lama scored 18 points for the losing team. In the womens´ section, Bina Nakarmi´s 10 points guided Golden Gate to a 63-18 victory over Kaski. In the match played at Morgan College, Golden Gate won all the quarters 15-4, 20-5, 15-5 and 13-4 . Manju Gurung scored nine points for Kaski.
