REPUBLICA

JANAKPUR, July 4: In an act of utter professional negligence, an MBBS doctor on Wednesday tore off the baby"s head while trying to help a seven-month pregnant woman deilver the baby.

The incident occured when Dr Jaya Prakash Pandit, with help from nurses, tried to pull out the baby from the womb of one 22-year old Sabita Yadav, who was admitted at Dhanusha Hospital on Wednesday morning.

The doctor has been absconding after the incident. According to Dr Soniya Singh, Pandit tried to take the body out though an operation an hour after he tore the baby"s head off. She said the doctor had pulled the baby"s head forcibly.

´The delivery case was normal. Had I been informed, the baby could have been saved,´ said Dr Singh, who is a gynecologist at the hospital. Promoter of the hospital Ram Babu Jayaswal, however, has refused to own negligence of the doctor and termed the incident as a coincidence.
