KATHMANDU, July 5: A group of Nepali Congress (NC) district presidents urged the party President Sushil Koirala to immediately call a national gathering of all district committee presidents to discuss current political situation in the country.
Six district presidents under Bagmati Zone held a meeting with Koirala at the latter´s residence in Maharajgunj Thursday morning and demanded that he call a national gathering immediately.
“We have asked the party president to call a national gathering in view of the dissolution of the Constituent Assembly without promulgating new statute, government´s move to declare fresh CA elections, and the party´s decision to stage protests against the government,” said Nuwakot District Committee president Jagadish Narasingh KC.
Ram Nath Adhikari of Dhading, Madan Das Amatya of Lalitpur, Ganesh Chakradhar of Bhaktapur, Shiva Humagain of Kavrepalanchowk and Mohan Basnet of Sindhupalchowk met Koirala and urged him to call a gathering. The group held separate meetings with President Koirala, Vice-President Ram Chandra Paudel, senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba and General Secretary Krishna Prasad Sitaula.
The NC had held a gathering of district presidents last year to discuss the party´s strategy. “The last year´s gathering had decided to hold similar meeting every year to review and discuss party´s strategies,” KC further said.
The district committee presidents said Koirala was positive about holding the gathering.
