  Sundarighat locals enforce Lalitpur banda

REPUBLICA ONLINE

KATHMANDU, July 6: Locals of Sundarighat have enforced a Lalitpur banda protesting the government bid to relocate the squatters evicted from their temporary settlement on the bank of the Bagmati River in Thapathali, on Friday.

Transportation in the area, specially along the Ring Road section of the Lalitpur has come to a grinding halt due to the banda. Marketplaces and academic institutions have also remained closed due to the banda in Lalitpur.

The agitating locals have been demanding that the government scrap its decision to resettle the squatters in their locality. Recently, the government has begun building temporary settlements for squatters in Sundarighat.
