BIRTNAGAR, July 6: Chairman of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (Nepal), Kamal Thapa, has said that going for fresh people´s mandate on the basis of a consensus among the political parties was the best alternative to the Constituent Assembly.
Addressing an interaction programme organized here today by the RPP-Nepal Morang chapter, leader Thapa said only the government led by the civil society could hold the new elections in a fair and transparent manner.
He stressed that the new CA should have only 250 to 300 members. The RPP-Nepal Chairman further stressed the need of holding fresh referendum on the issues of the Hindu religion, constitutional monarch and federalism as well.
"Now, democracy and nationalism is in peril", he said, adding that emergence of a new political force was necessary to resolve the present political problems in the country.
Also putting their views at the programme, representatives of civil society and different religious organizations stressed the need of federalism with multi-ethnic identity. Party co-general secretary Pralhad Shah was also present on the occasion.
