  ASCOL student leader dead

REPUBLICA

KATHMANDU, July 10: A student leader at Amrit Science Campus (ASCOL) who had sustained a bullet injury to his throat a month ago died Tuesday.

Basanta Shahi, ASCOL unit vice president of All Nepal National Student Union (ANNFSU), succumbed to bullet injury one month after what the police said to be a case of accidental firing.

The 25-year-old died while receiving treatment at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH), confirmed Nabina Lama, vice president of ANNFSU.

Shahi was shot at his neck when one Mukesh Khatri was reportedly fiddling with a pistol in a room rented by Bir Bahadur Raut, vice president of Free Student Union (FSU) at ASCOL, on June 8.

FSU member Mukeh Thapa was also present in the room. ANNFSU has already expelled Raut and Thapa from the union while Raut has been absconding since the incident.
