  SPORTS BRIEFS: Saipal, NASA into semis

KATHMANDU, July 10: Saipal B and NASA advanced into the semifinal of the First Pyramid Inter College 3X3 Basketball Tournament in girls´ category on Tuesday. Saipal defeated host Pyramid B 7-1, while NASA overcame Pyramid B 10-4 in the matches played at the home court of Pyramid. NASA edged past Saipal B 8-6 for the semifinal spot.

GoldenGate and Classic also advanced into the semifinals with their respective wins. GoldenGate thrashed Saipal A 9-1 and Classic 7-1 while Classic registered 12-11 victory over Saipal A. NASA meets Classic and GoldenGate faces Saipal B in the semifinals.

Indo-Nepal karate from Friday

KATHMANDU: Nepal Sotokan Karate Association will organize Fourth Indo-Nepal Sotokan Karate Tournament from Friday at covered hall of the Dasharath Stadium. The organizers informed during a press meet Tuesday that altogether 400 players will compete for 45 gold medals. 300 Nepali players and 100 Indian players will participate in the two-day tournament.

Gorkhapatra registers win in Media Cup

KATHMANDU: Gorkhapatra and Terai Television started the Fifth Media Cup Knockout Football Tournament on Tuesday with victories. In the matches played at the Dasharath Stadium, Gorkhapatra edged past Channel Nepal 4-3. Mazrul Haq, Prajit Shakya, Jay Kumar KC and Purna Poudel scored a goal each for Gorkhapatra. Suraj Regmi score twice and Mohan Raj Adhikari scored a goal for Channel Nepal.

In another match, Terai Television thrashed Sourya Daily 5-0. Aman Adhikari scored a brace while Abhishek Karki, Sandip Chhetri and Kiran Shakya scored a goal each for the winning team. Altogether 14 teams are participating in the tournament.
