KATHMANDU, July 11: Roshan Limbu demolishes the belief that the young generation is a lazy one, only enjoying their couch-potato status.

The 16-year-old, a recent SLC graduate, is all set to start his studies at National College of Computer Studies in Paknajol, Kathmandu. Coming from a close-knit family, Roshan considers himself to be a simple boy.

Did you do anything in your break post-SLC exams?

I had planned to take up web designing classes during this break. So I’ve been taking classes at Arena Multimedia. I also had a deep interest in gymnastics but I didn’t know of any place where I could take training. But finally, I’m training in the Rangashala. Besides these classes, I have my regular B-Boying dance lessons and my calligraphy classes.

You seem to have varied interests. Can you tell us something more about them?

I’ve been taking B-Boying lessons from Nepa Dance Academy for two and a half years now. My class is from 6 to 8pm. My interest in B-Boying came from TV shows and the Youtube videos I used to watch. We’ve danced in some 15 dance programs. My favorite B-Boyers are Neguin and Lilou. Calligraphy is the result of my father’s interest in good handwriting. When he found out about calligraphy classes, he advised me to enroll in it as it would also help me during my SLC exams.

I started the class thinking it was just a means to improve my handwriting but I found out there was more to calligraphy than just handwriting. It’s about beautiful letters and an artistic way of writing. I go to Calligraphy Centre in Thamel at 9 am for an hour of class. I want to become a computer engineer in the future and hence my web designing class from 3 to 5 pm. In the mornings, I have my gymnastic classes from 6 to 8:30 o’clock. All these things were started off as hobbies but have now become my obsessions.

Have you learnt anything important from these classes?

Now I believe that if you work hard and have patience, you can achieve anything.

Do you have any other interests?

Well, I like cooking and people say they like my dishes. But I think I’m just learning. I’m also interested in art. I mostly sketch and I’ve taken part in at least eight school competitions.
