Professors to shut down TU for two days

REPUBLICA ONLINE

KATHMANDU, July 11: Floating a 22-point demand, professors of Tribhuvan University (TU), the state´s oldest and largest university, have decided to shut down TU colleges and research centers on Thursday and Friday.

Organizing a press meet at Reporters’ Club on Wednesday, the professors have demanded salary hike and dress allowance as per the government officials who have been enjoying benefit for the past one year.

The professors have also demanded a provision of accident insurance, permanent status to temporary teachers with years of affiliation and no age bar for study leave, among others.

Prem Raj Khaniya, general secretary of Professors’ Association, warned of stern protests if their demands were not met at the earliest.
