Taskforce to resolve disputes between rival Maoist parties
KATHMANDU, July 11: UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Chairman of the newly-formed CPN-Maoist Mohan Baidya formed a four-member taskforce to settle the disputes between the two parties.
Standing Committee member Krishna Bahadur Mahara and politburo member Agni Sapkota from UCPN (Maoist) and Secretary Dev Gurung and politburo member Hitman Shakya from the new party have been entrusted with the responsibility of settling the disputes.
The leaders took the decision amid reports of clashes between the cadres of the two parties in a bid to take control of party office buildings, lands and other properties in several districts across the country. Some cadres were injured during a violent clash between the two sides over capturing the party office and properties in Chitwan district.
Those closely observing the Maoist disputes following the party split described the formation of taskforce as a calculated move sensing serious consequences of the clashes.
"The leaders might have sensed the possibility that fighting might flare up further. The party rank and file on both the sides is not in a mood to give up the expensive properties," said a leader. Leaders said the party´s office buildings and lands in Bharatpur, Chitwan alone are worth over 40 millions rupees.
Sapkota said the four-member body will study all kinds of disputes between the two parties and try to find amicable solutions to not only property related issues but also other disputes.
